Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is Facial Toning?

Now you can see VISIBLE DIFFERENCES IN YOUR SKIN AND MUSCLE TONE with the sophisticated electronic facial. The machine is designed to "reprogram" the

muscles, increase blood flow and metabolic activity, so cells better absorb nutrient-rich products into the skin.

This facial procedure is extremely relaxing. There is no pain or uncomfortable pressure. Your muscles will feel tightened and stronger, and your skin will glow and appear

to keep lifting 24 hours after each facial treatment.  Excellent results are achieved after only a few treatments!

02 How long do the sessions take?

Allow about an hour and a half for your initial appointment, and an hour to an hour and a half for all subsequent appointments.

03 What age range is this treatment suited for?

Facial Sculpting is recommended for adult clients of all ages, since it preserves and maintains the youthful elements of younger clients, and acts as a rejuvenating treatment for older clients.

04 How many sessions are recommended?

Most clients need 10 treatments to achieve a full facelift makeover. Clients with greater aging effects such as severe neck sagging, deep creases, or distinguished crow’s feet at the brow, may need up to 15 sessions. Clients need a minimum of 2 sessions their first week then one per week thereafter until treatment is complete. Those who are on a short timeline (preparing for a wedding, accepting an award, etc.) may be treated twice per week in order to complete their treatment quicker. After your 10 sessions, your look is maintained by receiving booster treatments every 4-6 weeks.

05 Is microcurrent stimulation safe?

No side effects or adverse outcomes related to this treatment have been seen so far. No increase in the conversion to the wet form of ARMD has been seen to those who

have been treated.

In a consensus statement by the NIH reports that, "One of the advantages...is that the incidence of adverse affects is substantially lower than that of many drugs or other

accepted medical procedures used for the same conditions."

06 What is homeostasis?

Homeostasis is the body’s natural ability to maintain an optimal internal balance. When something happens to affect the body’s normal homeostasis adverse symptoms appear, as the body tries to defend its weakest areas and restore balance. Who can be treated with MET?

Patients whose symptoms are not relieved by appropriate drug therapy and /or Patients who are unable or unwilling to undergo surgery or take anti-inflammatory drugs for, amongst other conditions, Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and related bone and joint diseases. It also offers relief to patients with sports injuries and to those who are recovering from surgery.

07 What makes microcurrent unique?

Microcurrent is unique in that it has a cumulative effect, rather than a diminishing effect, unlike other forms of electric therapy/electric stimulation devices (interferential, higher amperage TENS and galvanic) that decrease ATP levels.

08 What does trauma do to the cells of the body?

Trauma affects the electrical potential of damaged cells and an injured area has a higher electrical resistance than the surrounding tissue. This decreases electrical conductivity through the injured area, and decreases cellular capacitance, leading to inflammation and impairment of the healing process. What effect does microcurrent therapy have on injured or traumatised cell tissue? When microcurrent therapy is applied to injured tissue, resistance is reduced and the natural current flow of the tissue is supported. This allows the cells in the traumatized area to regain capacitance (flow of electrons) and re-establish homeostasis.

09 What is Frequency Specific Microcurrent?
Frequency Specific Microcurrent (i.e. mono-phasic, biphasic): means that specific frequencies are used for different tissues and conditions, often providing softening of the tissue and decreased pain. This softening and the pain relief that comes with it seems to be long lasting and in many cases permanent.

Microcurrent technology is the core of Energy Light Rejuvenation™. Microcurrent has been used successfully for decades by acupuncturists, chiropractors, physicians,

physical therapists and other wellness professionals for pain management and the treatment of various medical conditions. It is an extraordinarily effective modality for

meridian balancing, healing acceleration and non-needle acupuncture.

Whole body treatment is where microcurrent facial rejuvenation began. After a physician treated a client for Bell’s Palsy paralysis with microcurrent, the client came back

and asked that the same treatment be done for the other side of her face. She noticed a dramatic difference in her appearance. On the treated side, facial lines were much

softer, her skin had a firmer tone and appeared lifted, and her eyes were more open. These incredible results were repeated, and as the development of microcurrent facial

rejuvenation progressed, our researchers became aware that the visible results weren’t merely superficial. Additional benefits were occurring beneath the skin. Clients told

us they were feeling better, calmer, and enjoyed a vibrant sense of wellbeing!

10 Procedure

This will differ depending on the type of machine used, but the following procedure is usual:

two special probes are then stroked over the surface of the skin in a precise way to stimulate the different muscles requiring treatment;

2 – 3 treatment sessions are usually recommended for the first few weeks, going down to 1 a week as the results become evident.

Treatment sessions last for approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour.

11 Why we offer this particular unit

This is the home unit version of the Microcurrent Stimulation (MCS) unit (MicroStim 100 ILE) that was used in the studies described below. It is preset automatically to

run through 4 frequencies in a preset 5-minute cycle before turning off. The four frequencies are: 292Hz for 30 seconds, 30Hz for 30 seconds, 9.1Hz for 2 minutes, then

finally .3Hz for 2 minutes. Voltage is up to 22 and amps range 700 microAmps.

There are other microcurrent stimulation units available, but they have to be specifically calibrated both in frequency and timing to ensure proper gentle wave currents for

your eyes. Most of these units are actually TENS units designed more for wound healing and bone repair.

12 Who should not undergo this procedure?

As long as you are generally healthy and don’t have any skin diseases or infections in the area treated, there are few medical reasons why patients should not undergo this

treatment. However, patients may be unsuitable for treatment if they have a pacemaker, a history of heart problems, epilepsy or problems with thrombosis.

Although there is no evidence that this treatment is harmful for pregnant women, you would generally be advised to wait until after you have given birth before embarking

upon a course of treatment.

13 What sort of practitioner can operate a micro current machine?

Most machines are found in beauty salons and spas and can be used by trained beauticians and aestheticians.

14 Repeat treatments

You should usually see changes within 4 or 5 sessions, but between 10 and 15 is the average number of suggested treatments. Monthly maintenance sessions are then

suggested to maintain the results after the first round of therapy.

15 Does it hurt and what are the potential complications?

There is usually no pain associated with this type of treatment, and it appears to be completely safe with no known side effects or risks.

Most patients report a feeling of relaxation and an increase in energy following treatment. Since the lymph system is stimulated by the micro-current, it is important for the

success of your treatment that you drink at least two litres of water every day in order to help your body flush out the toxins or poisons which are disturbed by this

treatment.

16 What happens during the treatment and how long will it take to recover?

Careful discussions regarding your reasons for wanting micro-current treatment are vital before any treatment begins. You should also make sure that your practitioner

knows what you expect from this therapy and is sure that he or she can achieve this for you. You need to talk about the type of equipment they are planning to use and

evidence of good results for that particular machine are very important at this stage.

A medical history should also be taken to make sure that there are no reasons why you shouldn’t undertake treatment. You may be asked to sign a consent form, which

means that you have understood the potential benefits and risks associated with the procedure.

Photographs may also be taken by the practitioner for a “before and after” comparison at a later date.

17 Recovery time

None is required and you can return to work or normal activities immediately after a treatment.

18 What does Frequency Specific Microcurrent do?

Frequency Specific Microcurrent increases ATP production my 500%. In a study done entitled "The effects of Electric Current on STP generation, Protein Syntheses and

Membrane transport in Rat Skin," ATP production increased five times with currents from 50uA to 1000uA. With currents exceeding 1000uA ATP production leveled

and with 5000uA ATP production was reduced slightly. Microcurrent was also shown to increase protein synthesis and amino acid transport.

Microcurrent applied to injured tissue supports the natural current flow in the tissue, allowing cells in the traumatized area to regain their capacitance. Trauma affects the

electrical potential of the damaged tissue. This injured area has a higher electrical resistance than the surrounding tissue. This decreases electrical conductance through the

injured area, and decreases cellular capacitance, leading to impairment of the healing process and inflammation. When Microcurrent is applied, resistance is reduced, allowing bioelectricity to flow through and reestablish normal function. This process helps to initiate and perpetuate the many biochemical reactions that occur in healing.

19 How does it work?

Your body seems to use the Microcurrent energy to increase its own energy production. Microcurrent increases the production of ATP, your own chemical energy, by up

to 500%. It also increases protein synthesis and waste product removal.

20 What can I do about the side effects?

Your doctor may give you some supplements to help your liver detoxification pathways deal faster with the by-products from the tissues. You should also drink at least

two quarts of water in the two hours following treatment. If you feel the side effects return, drink more water, take additional supplements and it should pass in about 20

minutes.

21 Do the benefits last?

Every patient responds individually but the changes to the tissues seem to be long lasting. About 60 to 80% of the changes created in one treatment last until the next

treatment, about four to seven days. Your muscles are used to responding the way they are and may return to the old configuration if not treated again, although some

patients have had permanent changes in one treatment.

22 What are the side effects?

Microcurrent changes muscle tissue, softens scar tissue, and increases circulation with the effect of removing long stored waste products and increasing cellular

metabolism so quickly that there is often a detoxification reaction after treatment.

Some people have a similar reaction after a massage but the reaction after Microcurrent is stronger because so much is accomplished in such a short period of time. The

side effects can include nausea, fatigue, drowsiness, a temporary increase in pain, and a flu-like feeling.

The side effects usually start during or about 90 minutes after treatment, and may last from 4 to 24 hours. There have been no lasting adverse reactions

reported. FSM has a history of being very safe.

23 How do the frequencies work?

The frequencies appear to work on the principle of biologic resonance. A singer can shatter a glass when the note resonates with the crystal structure of the glass.

Microcurrent frequencies seem to be able to resonate with biologic tissue and change the structure of the tissue when the frequency is correct. Once the tissue is changed

and stable it seems to be able to stay in the new configuration

24 What are the benefits of FSM therapy?

Microcurrent treatment: is painless, increases speed of recovery, often promotes healing in conditions that have not responded to other treatment, and is cost effective.

The effects are long lasting and the healing of tissue is more complete

25 Why can't I feel it?
The current is so low it doesn't stimulate sensory nerves.

26 Why does the doctor use the black graphite gloves?

The graphite gloves conduct the current from the machine to your body. The gloves allow the doctor to feel your muscles and put the current exactly where it is needed.

It is believed the shape of the gloves makes them a more effective way of delivering the current to the muscles.

27 What are the pads for?

The pads are a more subtle way of delivering the current to your body. The pads deliver frequencies to your whole system, not just the muscles. The frequencies used

with the pads are thought to work like electronic homeopathy.

28 Why does the doctor change frequencies on the machine?
It has been observed that specific frequencies seem to target specific conditions in the tissues. In many cases the tissues will suddenly soften and become less painful when the correct combination of

frequencies is chosen. This softening and the pain relief that comes with it seems to be long lasting and in some cases permanent.

29 What is Sculpting?

Sculpting is a procedure that involves the delivery of microcurrent into the face and body through specially designed conducting wands that are applied at specific acupuncture points. This microcurrent is the closest known electrical current that is nearly identical to the electrical current the body produces. It is therefore physiologic, safe and free from harmful side effects.
